team up challenge update

The 2016-2017 Team Up Challenge may be nearing the end of the season, but that doesn’t mean it’s slowing down! Over the past month, we have had SAFCSpurs, and Stars players out in the community with our Team Up Challenge kids.

On May 22 and 23, Stars players met up with our teams from STRAPS Sports and Fox Tech High school to help them on their projects. STRAPS is hosting wheelchair basketball inclusion camps and Fox Tech is cleaning up the neighborhood around their school.

Stars players spent an afternoon of recreational therapy with the kids from Clarity Child Guidance Center. These kids are using gardening and other forms of therapy to heal young minds.

SAFC players made their way down to Southside High School on May 24 to help the students build a shed and install an irrigation system for their community garden. These students will be starting a farmers market to provide fresh food to the community that is located in a food desert.

On June 20, SAFC hosted the Team Up Challenge kids from Family Service Association at Toyota Field to learn about the health & wellness aspects of being a pro athlete. June 28 was a double header for us! Stars players visited Heartis Senior Center with Camp to Success to bring fun games and activities to the residents while Spurs players participated in a STRAPS wheelchair basketball clinic at Morgan’s Wonderland!
