This presentation will focus on the breeding, nesting, and brood rearing aspects of quail reproduction. A brief overview of the biology involved in each process will be included (e.g. what causes quail to go into breeding condition? How are eggs laid? How do chicks keep cool during the hottest months? What do quail require from their habitat to be successful in each step of the process?). The challenges that quail face during each phase will also be described-these range from thermal stress to nest predation and sibling competition. The presenter will also provide some recommendations for management practices that support quail reproductive efforts.
