Area 10 Special Olympics Spring Games April 29-30

More than 1,400 children and adults with intellectual disabilities from the 18 counties in the Greater Dallas Area will compete for the gold medal in track & field, soccer or tennis events at the annual Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) Area 10 Spring Games, being held from Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 at Cedar Hill High School.  Volunteers are still needed. Those interested can register here:


Friday’s events will run from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Saturday’s portion of the annual Spring Games will be preluded by the Opening Ceremony at 8:00 a.m. Competition events will go from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. 


The Opening Ceremony will be held on Saturday at 8:00 a.m.


Athletes in this year’s Games range in age from 8-79 years old. Loretta Daves of the Duncanville Swingers is 79 years old and will be competing in the softball throw. 72-year-old Mike Dixon of the Sherman Shooting Stars will participate in singles and doubles tennis, while Barry Sheft, 63, will take part in five-aside soccer with the Richardson Sidekicks.


Competitors 12 years old and up will be vying for a chance to qualify for the upcoming statewide competition – Summer Games – which will take place in Arlington from May 26-29.
