Joey Cushman 5K Run set for Halloween

Put your Halloween costume on early, lace up your running shoes and get ready to race to the finish line with some of Arlington’s finest at the 13th annual Joey Cushman 5K Run at River Legacy Parkon Saturday, Oct. 31.


Joey Cushman was an Arlington Police Officer, who was killed in a training exercise on June 7, 2001.  Each year, the Arlington Police Department honors his memory with the Joey Cushman 5K because of his commitment and service to SOTX.  


The Arlington Police Department and Special Olympics Texas invite runners of all levels – beginners through advanced– to compete or run for fun.


Registration cost is $25. Online registration will close on Oct. 28. Click here to register today!


Race day check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and a pre-race warmup will be held at 8:00 a.m. The race starts with a fun run at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and wraps up with post-race awards for top three masters, top three overall, top three finishers and for best costumes.


Packets can be picked up in advance from Wednesday, October 28-Friday, October 30 anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. atThe Runner, 3535 W Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, TX 76013.

About the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR)

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle.  In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985 and had grown to become one of the largest in the nation.  In the last decade, Torch Run has contributed over $11 million through the dedication of thousands of law enforcement personnel fundraising on behalf of SOTX.  The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 53,400 athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state.
