KCOS El Paso

November, 2014

On Thursday, November 6 at 7 pm KCOS is airing a special presentation of the documentary, When I Have Your Wounded: The DUSTOFF Legacy. The film follows the legendary pioneers of Army MEDEVAC in Korea and Vietnam to the front-line “Dustoff” missions in the deserts of the Middle East. When I Have Your Wounded carries viewers through a harrowing, heroic, life-saving revolution in battlefield medicine, a revolution forged by the unhesitating, uncompromising dedication of soldiers who put their own lives on the line so that other may live. Join today’s heroes of DUSTOFF as they rescue wounded from the front lines in Afghanistan and meet yesterday’s pioneers as they recount the birth and test of the U.S. Army’s most noble mission. View a 2 minute trailer for the program here:

KCOS is airing the program as part of their fall membership efforts and as an honor to our military and veteran community members. Our on-air hosts will be joined by three active duty flight medics currently stationed at Fort Bliss, as well as local Vietnam veteran, John Wesley Heide, who recently published a book about his military service and return home entitled, “Life Beyond the Scope.”

“We’re honored to be able to share this remarkable story of these brave warriors with our viewers. I was inspired by their selfless service to our country and I hope others are as well,” says Emily Loya, General Manager at KCOS. The station received special permission to air the documentary from the director, Patrick Fries, owner of Arrowhead Films in Austin.

Pat Fries and Arrowhead Films have done an incredible job of documenting the service of America’s DUSTOFF Warrior. These soldiers place themselves in harm’s way to save the lives of our sons and daughters – each one carrying on the legacy of MAJ Charles Kelly’s last words, ‘I will leave when I have your wounded,’” says Col. Dan Gower, Executive Director of the DUSTOFF Association.
