Houston Museum District Presents Museum Experience Zone 4 September 27

The 2014 Museum Experience wraps the year-long celebration with the final cultural block party featuring five museums, Hermann Park and Miller Outdoor Theatre on Saturday, September 27. Special programming for the day includes monster makeovers, live art installations, zoological talks and a nutritional expo.    


Children’s Museum of Houston presents their Nutrition Expo while The Health Museum hosts live species in the new exhibit, Attack of the Bloodsuckers and offers vampire makeup from the pros as ScreamWorld. Visit Houston Museum of Natural Science’s permanent exhibit halls; Meet the Keepers at Houston Zoo; and watch as Japanese artist Yusuke Asai creates his premiere U.S. show using locally sourced materials in conjunction with The Menil Collection’s exhibition, Experiments with Truth: Gandhi and Images of Nonviolence.


Laurette Cañizares, executive director of the Houston Museum District spoke about the final quarterly event of 2014. “The cultural array of programming within Zone 4 institutions is reflective of the district’s offerings 365 days of the year.”


“Our partners help enhance the experience by offering more than traditional art on the walls and providing interactive opportunities for participants. The lush green landscape of Hermann Park and cooler fall weather is the perfect combo to walk the district.”


The surrounding park activities include pedal boat rides in McGovern Lake and Hermann Park Railroad line plus two performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre; Mexico Lindo presented by Ambassadors International Ballet Folklorico and Splendid China IX presented by Dance of Asian America. Transportation options around the zone include free pedicab rides or paid train rides via Hermann Park Railroad. Visitors who choose to walk mayfind hidden activations along the route; art installations courtesy of Thrasher art collective, prizes and more.

Children’s Museum of Houston 
10a.m. - 6p.m. Discover what’s yummy for the tummy and learn about the fuel your body needs to get up and go during the Children’s Museum Nutrition Expo.

The Health Museum Free Every Thursday 2p.m. - 5p.m.

10a.m. – noon Stop by The Health Museum and get a vampire makeover from the pros at ScreamWorld.

9a.m – 5p.m. Explore the science of what’s biting you in the new exhibit, Attack of the Bloodsuckers. Encounter live species, test your bug-appealing foot odor, receive a hug from a giant tick, and much more in this family-friendly experience.

Houston Museum of Natural Science 
9a.m. - 5p.m. Explore the ruins of ancient Egypt, stand face-to-face with a T. rex, and marvel at dazzling gems and minerals, all in one place.

Houston Zoo
9a.m. - 7p.m. 
The Zoo features more than 20 Meet the Keeper Talks each day, where guests can get insider information about the animals from those who know them best – the Zookeepers!

Rice University Art Gallery 
11a.m. - 5p.m. Catch a sneak peek as artist Yusuke Asai creates a new exhibit! The gallery space will be closed, but grab a bite and cool off in the RG Cubicle video space,where a selection of family-friendly shorts will be showing.

1p.m. - 3p.m. Enjoy an interactive art activity for children of all ages.

Hermann Park 
10a.m. - 6p.m. Ride Hermann Park Railroad around the Park and stop at HMNS, Rice, the Zoo, and Lake Plaza; $3.25 per person. Free to board at remote stops.

11a.m. - 5p.m. Pedal boat around McGovern Lake.

Miller Outdoor Theatre

Ambassadors International Ballet Folklorico present Mexico Lindo. Delight your senses with beautiful traditional and contemporary folkloric dances from Mexico.

8p.m. Experience all new works by award-winning artists from China’s top ranking dance companies in Splendid China IX produced by Dance of Asian America.
