San Antonio Area Foundation

July, 2014

The San Antonio Area Foundation announced that it has awarded more than $1.3 million to nonprofit organizations in this year’s annual round of competitive grants.

The Area Foundation awarded a total of 69 grants in the areas of animal services, arts & culture, biomedical research, children and youth, community/seniors and medicine/healthcare for 2014.

“These grants awarded through a competitive process reflect the priorities of the donors who made them possible,” said Lydia Saldaña, program officer for community and research grants at the Area Foundation.  “Their generosity makes it possible to provide funds for a wide variety of needs in the community. We’re thankful that they trust us to identify critical needs and to select the most qualified programs through the grants process.”

The largest individual grants included  $75,000 awarded to Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation, $75,000 awarded to Spay-Neuter-Inject-Protect of San Antonio and $60,000 awarded to I Care San Antonio, a faith-based organization that provides vision care, such as eye exams, corrective lenses and surgery, to those who cannot afford it.

Of the grants awarded, four of them, totaling $111,434, were in the Biomedical Research category, which the Area Foundation selects through a separate, competitive process.
