Witte Museum

April, 2014

Get ready for the Grand Opening of the H-E-B Body Adventure Powered by University Health System on May 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Witte Museum.

The H-E-B Body Adventure is a revolutionary, state-of-the-art interactive experience where multi-generations of visitors will engage in mind and body. The Witte Museum is the first museum, to explore a full body experience and offer inspiring, transformative and interactive adventures in Health IQ, Empowerment and Wellness. The Witte Museum, along with outstanding partners in the private and public health sectors, has the social equity, as the “people’s museum”, to do what no other museum has committed to do….movement, culinary, anatomical, meditative, and multi-sensory experiences that will change behavior, and at the same time, will be an amazing adventure.

Begin the adventure by selecting one of 12 Buddies: real people of all ages who underwent a three-month healthy lifestyle makeover and will serve as a virtual companion on the journey to

a healthy and balanced life. Visitors will join their Buddy to each station and track their progress with the POWERpass and end with a POWERprofile, a personalized take home record of the day’s adventure that allows the visitor to compare their improvement with previous visits.

The H-E-B Body Adventure will take each visit at the Witte Museum to a whole new level. Discover how empowering it is to set and achieve personal health goals at the interactive stations.

They include:

South Texas Trailblaze: Cycle through a virtual San Antonio River Landscape and explore how to keep a healthy heart rate during exercise;

Pick Up Your Pace: Run, jog or walk across a motion-capture screen and discover how long it would take you to walk the San Antonio River Trek to the Witte Museum;

Deep in the Heart: Examine a plastinated human heart and discover the inner workings of your most essential organ.

On the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas second floor, visitors will explore:

You Are What You Drink: Choose a drink, step on a stepper and see how long it would take to work off that drink;

Inside U: Examine the human body on a virtual anatomy table or strap on a skeletal vest to learn more about organs and what it takes to keep them healthy and safe;

Relax Your Brain and Relax to Win: Meditate and breathe to test relaxation skills and sharpen mental strength and wellness.

On the lower level, experience two exciting areas sponsored by the San Antonio Children’s Hospital.

Demonstration Kitchen: Participate in a live cooking demonstration where ingredients from the Witte container gardens are used to prepare fun and healthy meal choices that are familiar and easy to try at home with the entire family;

Toddler Discovery Garden: Little ones can crawl, climb, slide and explore on a fanciful fruit and vegetable playscape.
