Counting down to coverage
Texans Care for Children

September, 2013

Help Count Down to Coverage: Be a Social Media Ambassador this month!

On October 1, it's going to become a whole lot easier for a whole lot of Texans to get health care. Lots of people don't know about the new, low-cost health insurance options that are on their way.

This can be where you come in. . .

If you are on Facebook, we invite you to join our "Texas health care ambassador" social media campaign. You can help spread the word to fellow Texans about what's changing very soon, thanks to the Affordable Care Act.

We'll have different offerings in the weeks ahead, related to getting enrolled and the "beautiful things" Texans should know about the health law.

So go ahead: like us on Facebook, and be a health care social media ambassador. Thanks!

What You Might Have Missed at The Texas Treatment

If you haven't checked in lately on our blog, here's health care news you might have missed:

  • Last week, eight organizations learned they had received grants to become Texas "navigators" in the health care marketplace. Find out more about who the navigators are and how they'll work to let Texans know about health care options and get people here enrolled.
  • This year's Texas budget didn't go far enough in undoing some devastating cuts in services. Families, seniors and people with disabilities count on public health care partly funded by the state. Learn about CHIP, Medicaid, and the budget from Anne Dunkelberg of the Center for Public Policy Priorities.

  • Laura Brubaker with Engage Texas breaks down the findings from a new report showing that about 1 million Texans will be helped by the new low-cost insurance options made possible in the marketplace. This makes our state arguably the place with the most to gain from the nation's health law.

Register Today for Sept 7: Healthcare Stakeholders Forum in Houston

We know there are many questions about the big changes coming to the health insurance market: what to expect, how to prepare, and how these changes may affect you and your children. There are also big changes for organizations that do health outreach and enrollment. That's why CDF-Texas, the Texas Organizing Project, UH Center for Children Law & Policy, and Enroll America's Get Covered Americacampaign are teaming up to host a public forum on Saturday, September 7, Healthcare in a Changing Landscape, all about the new Health Insurance Marketplace that opens for business on October 1. Health and Human Services Regional Director Marjorie McColl Petty is confirmed as keynote speaker, with many additional local speakers confirmed. The event is designed for both stakeholders and consumers and will include special topics for those who facilitate outreach and enrollment. See the Agenda and Register Online today.
