Our facilitator will be Kathryn Winney. Kathryn graduated Summa Cum Laude in both 1980 and 1985 from Mississippi University for Women with bachelor degrees in Accounting and Legal Studies. After graduation, Kathryn worked as a Treasury Agent detailed with the DEA in Miami, Florida, and the Fraud/Tax Protester Task Forces. After leaving the Treasury Department, she served as the Coordinator of Family Services, a nonprofit military organization, in Lubbock, Texas. In 1988, Kathryn started her own CPA practice specializing in taxation; but to gain public accounting experience, she joined Carneiro, Chumney and Company, LLC, and worked in their tax department from 1990-1997 concentrating on individual, small business, partnership, estate, and trust returns.

She joined the accounting faculty within the Our Lady of the Lake University’s School of Business and Leadership in 2009. She is lead professor of the accounting program and serves as the MBA coordinator. She is obtaining additional training in the estate/trust and forensic accounting areas in order to obtain national certifications in these areas. Kathryn holds a CPA license in both Maryland and Texas and is licensed to operate a tax consulting firm, Kathryn Winney, CPA.

Kathryn is a five-time internationally peer reviewed author of journal articles on the subject of international financial reporting standards and finance issues. She serves as the SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) coordinator and sponsor of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting. She is the coordinator of the Capital One Entrepreneurship Challenge, a first-in-the-nation, university-based student business development competition where students engage in a year-long project to author a business plan and then start the business with seed money provided by Capital One. She also leads ALPFA in sponsoring the Clorox Project, a project to determine the marketing and business aspects of consumer goods appeal to the youthful (university age) Hispanic and minority student markets.

Kathryn has been nationally recognized for volunteer service to the military community. She was selected as Family Services Coordinator of the Year for the Air Force and was twice elected as President of the Officers’ Wives’ Club. Currently, she is a Meals on Wheels volunteer from OLLU and is a co-chair for 2012 United Way Campaign on the OLLU campus.
