Monty Python's Spamalot Cast Announced!

We are excited to announce the cast for the outrageous musical comedy Spamalot, playing May 14 - 26 at The Hobby Center. Purchase your tickets today!

Taking the stage as King Arthur will be Tom Hewitt. Hewitt has been nominated for both a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for his work in Broadway’s The Rocky Horror Show. His other work on Broadway includes Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, Dracula: The Musical and The Lion King. He has toured nationally in Peter Pan, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Urinetown.

True to its inspiration, Spamalot will feature several of the main characters in multiple roles throughout the show. The first cast member to play several roles is Jonathan Hammond, who will portray Sir Lancelot, The French Taunter, a Knight of Ni and Time the Enchanter. Hammond previously performed on Broadway in Ragtime and the national tour of Light In The Piazza. Brian Sears will appear as the Mayor, Patsy and as Guard 2. Sears counts The Book of Mormon, Lend Me A Tenor, Finian’s Rainbow and Grease among his Broadway credits, and he played in the national tour of All Shook Up.

Thank You to
Moonlight Serenade Supporters

The Hobby Center became a moonlit garden this past Friday at the TUTS’ Moonlight Serenade: Celebrating 45 Years Under The Stars Gala. Attendees dined on Sarofim Stage under a beautiful moon and stars and enjoyed cocktails amongst a garden full of trees and flowers in the Grand Lobby. The event was a tremendous success bringing in more than $615,000 to benefit TUTS’ Education programs that provide art education for children and adults of all abilities.

TUTS would like to thank all supporters of the 2013 Gala! We would also like to extend a very special thank you to our gala chairs, Melissa Edwards and Amy and Rob Pierce, and our gala stars, Brett Cullen, Bruce Norris, Sally Mayes, and Brent Spiner, (shown above) whose hard work and efforts ensured the gala was a lovely evening and amazingly successful!

TUTS Volunteer Highlight

Each year TUTS has over 300 volunteers who donate their time in our box office, Encore Boutique, administrative offices and with our students attending our education programs. Please join us in saluting our dedicated volunteers in honor of volunteer appreciation month!

Volunteer Spotlight:
The River Performing and Visual Arts Center, our educational program serving individuals with disabilities, has over 200 amazing volunteers each year who work in the classroom providing assistance and friendship to our students.

This spring one of our regular River volunteers, Julia Boyce approached us along with her friend Sarah Bland. They wanted to create costumes for our next recital as a way to have the other students at their school, St. John’s School, be involved with The River. It was called the Costume Crew project. They gathered the supplies, organized the volunteers, and made their vision come to life.

“All of the people who helped us with this project were volunteers who gave up study halls and free periods to paint legwarmers, hair ties, t-shirts, and sweatbands! Sarah and I wanted to create this project to help connect the kids at our school to the kids at The River. We had so much fun doing this project, and thank you so much for believing in our idea!” Sarah Bland and Julia Boyce, Co-Leaders of the “Costume Crew” project.

On April 13th during The Rivers’ 'Gotta Dance' Recital our students had 80’s inspired costumes to wear! Thank you Julia and Sarah for your dedication to our River programs!
