Panther Cave 3D Model Completed
Using Structure from Motion
SHUMLA contractor Mark Willis has completed the most complex, textured 3D model of a rock shelter to date, using Structure from Motion technology: a startlingly realistic journey through Panther Cave.
This amazing model is part of the three-year Panther Cave project undertaken by SHUMLA, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the National Park Service, Geo Marine and Mark Willis.
"This model is really exciting," noted Project Archeologist Amanda Castaneda.  "This is a first step towards a virtual museum, and it really showcases both the Structure from Motion and D-stretch technologies.  Models of this type will be invaluable for site mapping and long-term monitoring of site conditions."
The model is available here, and should be viewed on the high definition setting.  For the best possible viewing experience, give the video time to buffer.
