The Perfect Pair: New Balance San Antonio Partners with the Witte Museum
Witte Museum & New Balance

November, 2012

When it comes to community involvement, New Balance San Antonio is no stranger. As a fourth generation San Antonian, Owner Rob Kaufman holds the Alamo City very near and dear to his heart, with an ongoing objective of giving back to the community in which he was raised. Couple this passion with the many health and wellness initiatives and programs taking place at the Witte Museum and you have the perfect pair.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 65.7 percent of Bexar County adults are overweight or obese. The CDC also reports that approximately 12.5 million children and adolescents in the U.S. ages 2 to 19 years are obese.

To combat these growing statistics on a local level, New Balance San Antonio is proud to announce that it is Presenting Sponsor of the Witte Museum’s Annual Boot Scoot & 5K Run. The company has also partnered with the museum on additional programs including gently worn shoe drives and fitness-focused initiatives such as Fit Nights at local New Balance stores and VIP tours of the H-E-B Science Treehouse.

“The health and wellbeing of the local community is a key component of the New Balance San Antonio business model,” said Kaufman. “Partnering with the Witte Museum on its many initiatives is a very natural fit.”

Set for Saturday, April 13, the Boot Scoot & 5K Run will start and finish in front of The Witte Museum, with electronic chip timing as a new addition for this year’s event. Race proceeds directly fund student field trips to the Witte, and last year’s race provided $30,000 in scholarships. The Boot Scoot & 5K Run also benefits the community, with proceeds funding student field trips to the Witte. Through this effort, along with additional fundraising activities throughout the year, more than 11,000 school-age children were able to visit the Witte on scholarships.

"The Witte is very excited to partner with New Balance San Antonio. The Boot Scoot & 5K Run is not only an important wellbeing initiative for our community but benefits the youth of our community by providing scholarships," said Marise McDermott, President & CEO of the Witte Museum. "Additionally, the partnership is a perfect fit as the Witte embarks on the transformation of the H-E-B Science Treehouse into the H-E-B Body Adventure--a powerful experience to inspire a balanced life all while getting the body up and moving,” she added.

In preparation for the Boot Scoot & 5K Run, New Balance San Antonio will offer novices, avid walkers and runners alike the opportunity to train on a team through its inMotion program. Learn what shoes are best for your feet, train with an experienced coach and gear up for race day with other participants. More information on this program will be available in early 2013.

In-depth Fit Analysis

By measuring a customer’s feet and recording the natural walking style on an in-store treadmill, New Balance San Antonio takes great pride in making the shoe fitting process personal. Each store is outfitted with an iStep machine, a patented digital foot scanner created by Aetrex Worldwide, Inc., that accurately captures the necessary elements and measurements needed for customized comfort and body alignment in less than 30 seconds.

Fit Night at New Balance San Antonio

Fit Nights at New Balance San Antonio are unique retail experiences for a cause. New Balance San Antonio makes it easy for any local company to make a difference while enjoying an exclusive, private in-store shopping experience. New Balance will close its doors to the public and host a VIP evening of expert shoe fitting and shopping for the employees of a partnered business. A portion of the Fit Night sales go directly to a charity of choice.
