NEWS FROM TEXAS STATE: Health Information Technology hosts researchtraining boot camp
Texas State University

June, 2012

Health information management professionals and educators from around the country will meet at the Texas State University-San Marcos this week for a “Research Training Boot Camp.”

The boot camp, organized by the Health Information Management Department’s Health Information Technology (HIT) Institute, offers intensive training in research grant writing.  The event is directed by Sue Biedermann and Susan Fenton, co-directors of the HIT Institute and sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association Foundation.

Participants applied for the boot camp in January.  The participants have met via regularly scheduled webinars with the HIM faculty since March 15 and identified mentors with subject matter and research expertise. With their mentors, the participants have developed research questions, conducted literature reviews, identified funding opportunities and written first drafts of proposals.  During the intensive onsite meeting, the participants will conduct a mock review study section to learn about the grant evaluation process and use the feedback to continue the development of their grant proposal.  The goal is for each participant to leave the boot camp with a grant proposal ready for submission.

Additional information on the boot camp can be found or by calling (512) 245-8242.
