The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will ring in 2012 with Swingin’ in the New Year, an elegant evening of swing and big-band favorites led by guest conductor Jeff Tyzik and vocalist Carmen Bradford. The program includes standards such as Am I Blue?, Stormy Weather, One O’Clock Jump and It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.


The concert begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Bass Performance Hall. Tickets are $29-$80, available at 817-665-6000 or


Carmen Bradford is the daughter of legendary trumpeter/composer Bobby Bradford and vocalist/composer Melba Joyce, and her grandfather Melvin Moore sang with Lucky Millender’s Big Band in the 1940’s. Ms. Bradford was discovered by Count Basie and was the featured vocalist in the Count Basie Orchestra for nine years. She has since performed and/or recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Nancy Wilson, Doc Severinsen, Tony Bennett, James Brown, Patti Austin, George Benson, Lena Horne, Frank Sinatra, the National Symphony, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and many more. She performed on two Grammy-winning albums with the Basie band in the 1980’s, and has released two well-received solo albums.

Jeff Tyzik is one of the nation’s foremost pops conductors, recognized for his brilliant arrangements, original programming and engaging rapport with audiences of all ages. He is Principal Pops Conductor of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oregon Symphony and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He also is highly sought after as a guest conductor, with appearances including the Boston Pops, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mr. Tyzik holds bachelor of music and master of music degrees from the Eastman School of Music.
