Symphony Season to Continue Without New Agreement
San Antonio Symphony

October, 2011

The Board of Directors of the Symphony Society of San Antonio and the Orchestra Negotiating Committee for the American Federation of Musicians jointly announced that they have agreed to proceed forward with all the concerts in the 2011–2012 season. The orchestra will be paid based on the terms of the previous four-year agreement, which expired August 31, 2011, while the parties continue to negotiate the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement in an atmosphere of mutual trust.

“I’m excited that the musicians, board and management are moving forward in unity,” said Craig Sorgi, Chair of the Orchestra Negotiating Committee. Board Chair Denny Ware said, “The Board, Orchestra and Staff are committed to pulling together to improve the quality of life of our community. We have a phenomenal orchestra that provides our community with world-class performances and extensive music education activities that are extraordinary. We hope everyone in the community steps ups and supports our efforts to make San Antonio a great place to live.”

The season began the week of October 4 with six performances of Young People’s Concerts for third, fourth and fifth grade students.  The first subscription concerts are the pair of Classics concerts conducted by Music Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing on October 14 & 15 at the Majestic Theatre. All of the current programming will continue as planned.
